Books for young children 2+
By Eric Carle
Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?
Panda Bear, Panda Bear What Do You See ?
Bear, Polar Bear What Do you Hear?
While reading: Always name the author and illustrator…something they will be talking about from pre-k on up.
Compare and contrast the animals in using words like big/bigger, long/tall/short. Introduce the words; mammal, reptile etc. A pig and an alligator are alike they are both animals and have 4 legs they are very different one is
a mammal and one is a reptile. In the Polar Bear book you will learn about a Boa Constrictor but the word snake is not used. Your child will learn that a boa constrictor is a snake. The clue before we see the picture of the boa is introduced is “I hear
a boa constrictor hissing in my ear”. If an animal is hissing what kind of an animal do you think it is
Books with pictures; name the nouns (objects, people places and things) but also name the; actions, colors,
size and shape of things (Can you show me, which one is tall?), location (Which one is on the box?) in, under, off, next to, behind, in front etc).
Make predictions…(What do you think he will do next?)
